asus m2npv-vm

My Asus MB has line in/out and mic ports built in. Also has cable to front of case for speaker/headphone. Asus’ manual states that audio can be configured 2, 4, or 6 channel. Is the configuration for the back ports only. Can I set up for 6 channel and have it only affect the back audio ports with the front ports still working?
