Automatic Hidden File Creation

I have a NT server that will create a Hidden file when you attempt to save a file to one of its shares. The hidden file has the same name as the file you attempt to save except that it replaces the first letter with an “a”. Has any one seen this before of hae any ideas where to start looking.
