automatic power off

ever since i installed windows 2000 pro on my pc, when i go to shut down, the computer no longer powers off automatically after i select start/shut down. instead i get the box sayng “it is now safe to shut off your computer, and i have to manually power off the computer. i have an atx case and it worked before when i had windows 98 on the pc. any suggestons?
