automatically loose drive mappings

I currently have all my users mapped to various locations on my NT domain network. The user workstations are all Win2000 Pro’s, and for some reason now and then the drive mappings have a red ‘X’ as if they have been discunnected from the network.
Does any one know why this occurs, and how to prevent this?
