Backup Exec problem

by rabbit_runner . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

I recently took over a new responsibility. It involves backing up the files on several web servers (NT4SP6a). We are using Veritas Backup Exec 8.5 However, I have discovered that someone has mixed up the versions of BE. There is a version of 8.6floating around. On two of the servers, the BE Remote Agent and OFO agent are of the incorrect version. The BE media server is using 8.5, but the two web servers have the agents installed from 8.6. Note, because of politics, it is absolutely impossible to upgrade all the servers to 8.5. Therefore we must rely on the 8.5 version.
Problem: We are unable to re-install the 8.5 agent versions on the two web servers. I have removed both agents on both servers. Rebooted, deleted all assiciated files, dll’s, folders, and settings. Then did a re-install of the NTAA and OFO agents from the original 8.5 installation. When a backup is run, the same error pops up that there is an incompatible version running. The one given is 8.6.
I have checked the Veritas web site for any documentation, or support info on this problem but have not found one.
Has anyone encountered this situation? I would appreciate any help anyone can offer to help find a solution. Thanks.
