I recently purchased a Dell Latititude CPx a firm on Ebay. I have purchased other units (Dell laptops) from them, and they worked fine. The last one i got is having problems….
I have installed Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows 2000 on this machine. Windows 2000 seems to be the MOST stable (the other OS generated severe system errors and would not run). ALthough the W2K Pro installed ok, the display adapter has problems. I have downloaded the only video driver available from DEll (ATI Rage Mobility-M AGP2X) and the graphics do not run correctly…the wallpaper images are all pixelated with numerous colored squares and spots and when i try other background images i get this error
“The application, rundll32.exe, generated a appplication error. The exception generated was c0000005 at address 75CBECAD [nosymbols]”
that is from event viewer – applcation log.
some times when this machine boots up the graphics are fine..other times they are all pixelated again. The sameholds true for internet images and video – even the sounds gets garbled on web page videos….
This system is a PIII 650, 128 mb RAM, 20 gb HD running Windows 2000 Pro wth Service PAck 1
anyone have any ideas? I think it is the built in AGP adapter for the video myself. As I write and pre-paid RMA label is winging its way to me from the place i bought it but would liek to give them some better idea of what i think the problem is…anyone care to give me their opinion?
