Bios and IDE Problems

by sheppeardmj . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

Hi — I have a comp that has a Asus P4c800-E deluxe Mobo in it. Previously, it was running 2 sata drives in a raid 0 array, IDE Harddrive, and two dvd roms.

Windows became corrupted (on the raid)and I was able to boot to get important information off. I decided that since i had to reinstall windows, the raid array wasn’t really necessary. I decided to purchase a new IDE drive to put windows on to limit loss of data in case of a crash.

While installing the drive, i decided to move the drives around to better cabling and airflow in the box. After doing this, putting everything back together and giving it a good air blowout (was really dirty), the dvd rom did not work, as if there was not any current to it. Hmm weird, but it was on its last leg. Get a new dvd drive. Install only the dvd drive with no ide hardrives to see if it will be recognized — no prob.

Now here is the prob. If i hook only the dvd rom up, and the sata drives, all are recognized by the bios. If i throw an IDE drive into the mix, on a separate ide cable, the bios does not recognize the dvd rom, nor the ide hard drive. IF i try the ide hardrive alone, the ide drives are not recognized.

I have tried changing the cables around and different ide slots, but cannot alter the above details. I know the ide drives are good, b/c i put them in enclosures and they work fine.
