bios error

I get a message saying checksum error reading device a: right after the memory test.
after rebooting a couple of times the pc will work ok.
found bios chip corrupted after calling award software and they told me that it would cost $69.00 for the chip (I could replace the mbd cheaper)the mbd is a erpa ??? model BB1
the bios chip is 2A69KMPC ver. I440BXW977TF
where can i buy a chip cheaper or if I flash the bios will that work or will it total screw up the chip?
