Bios messge: CPU fan not function!

by itek4u . Updated 22 years ago

Compaq Presario 5000, 830 CF Rev 3.0 SiS 730 Chipset, Socket A motherboard.

2 issues.

A. A previous technician installed a new motherboard and then changed a setting in the BIOS to have the Hardware monitor enabled. The PC will not post now because of that being enabled. You can hear the RAM detect, then a message pops up saying: ‘CPU fan does not function properly!’. The system then shuts itself down.

The fan is connected to the motherboard and is visually spinning.

I have been told to do a Flash of the BIOS. How am I supposed to do this if it does not get past the message? I tried doing a reset of the BIOS via change of the jumper, but that did not work.

B. There is also a green wire not connected to the pins. I do not know where this goes. On The 16 pin set up,
1. the black wire is connected to pin 6, which is the center of a five pin power led setup,
2. the yellow wire is going to pin 8, which is number four of the power led setup,
3. next is the IDE led pins where white is on pin 1 and red on pin 2,
4. then power button (pwrbtn) is the orange and blue wires. I checked up on the Compaq site via but that did not help.

Help, the people want their computer to work!
