Boot failure after successful BIOS updat

by rgrowcock . Updated 23 years, 1 month ago

I have just updated an older ASUS P2L97 Mobo with the latest BIOS, now it won’t boot. I followed all of the steps and got a “BIOS updated successfully” screen, which told me to reboot and load the new BIOS defaults. Now my system will not boot!It has Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG and is running a PII 233. It is an older computer that I am updating for a friend. Now it seems to be toast.

If I could get back to a command prompt, I could just reload the original BIOS and hope that would fix the problem, but I can’t even get there. I will hang in one of two spots after detecting the drives. Either after Update DMI information, or just before that. Depending on the BIOS settings I select.

I have tried removing the CMOS battery and get a CMOS checksum failure after replacing and rebooting. I got the BIOS update from ASUS, so I thought it would be fine, so much for that thought. Does ANYONE have ANY ideas that I could try?
