boot & lz32.dll

by ev3 . Updated 25 years, 11 months ago

Every time I boot up I get a system alert ‘lz32.dll is corrupt or missing’… Dismiss the box and almost everything is OK… Except I can’t install or uninstall certain programs, specifically those that use a ‘setup.exe’ type installer. (eg: MS Office products, most virus checkers etc).
I have re-installed lz32 from my original disks, I have done everything the microsoft tech note said to do. No change to the boot up message.
I have not done anything to the registry as yet, there is an entry in ‘\hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\sessionmanager\knowndlls’.
I don’t have time right now to reformat the HD etc and reinstall everything.
Any clues? I do install/uninstall a lot of stuff, and I think the problem occurred atnext boot after some such session.

thanks, ev3
