Boot problem HP dv 1000 lap

Spilled coffee into my dv1000. It boots to a blank screen with a flashing cursor but doesn’t react. I can go into BIOS setup but the hard drive test fails. If I swap out the hard drive, the drive is fine. Could it be the controller and can it be replaced? Thanks- I’d hate to trash this computer! David
