Boot problems

I reformatted a Compaq Armada M700. There is no floppy drive. There is a CD/DVD-ROM. I put the XP CD in the drive to install XP but I only get a message about an invalid system disk. My BIOS is 1.00. The multibay cd/dvd-rom works. So there is nothing on the hard drive, no floppy, and inserting the xp cd still doesn’t boot the computer (oh, and in the bios multibay is the 1st boot order). What can I do to get this machine running again. Thanks
