Boot Time Error – Unique?

by miikey87 . Updated 19 years, 1 month ago

Hello All,

Ive just taken a hard drive from another computer with an XP installation and put it into my old but working computer to start from fresh.

I have tried all combinations of the boot order.

When trying to boot from the HDD its been HDD-0, CDROM, NONE and when from CD its been CDROM, NONE, NONE.

I have the DVD drive as the master and the harddrive as the slave.

The harddrive refuses to boot just hanging on the start windows normally, i’ve expected this as its come from a completely different system. I was hoping to format and use the windows XP professional SP2 cd that is associated to the motherboard/cpu.

Unfortuantely on boot i get the classic
“Disk boot failure insert system disk.” error.

I have tested the harddrive in another computer and same with the DVD drive, both work fine. I know that the windowsxp disk is a boot CD as well, ive used it for a few formats on this computer.

Ive checked the cables that they are in firm and correct but I’ve had no such luck. Even trying to boot from a knoppix disk nothing wants to boot. I’ve also reset the bios and started from scratch.

I am trying to get a fresh XP CD boot so I can format and set the system up again but seem quite stuck now!

If any1 has any advice it would be appreciated.

Regards,

Michael
