I have a 30 GB hard drive with XP Professional installed. I can mount it as a slave and view all of the files via another hard drive with Windows Vista installed. When I attempt to make problem disk the Master Drive and boot it, I get the messege “ntldr missing, press any key to restart”.
I have an XP Home edition disc that I can boot to windows recovery console. I ran fixboot and fixmbr, and I also copied ntldr and ntdetect.com to the problem hard drive. I cannot run a repair install of XP, which I am assuming is because I am using a XP home disc rather than a XP Pro disc. Should I try to get an XP Pro disk, and do a repair install, or would I even be able to?
I currently use Windows Vista on another hard drive, but would like to get the XP Pro installation working without a format.
What are your suggestions, comments, or ideas?
Thanks Ryan
