Both CD’s are intermittent

Dell 4600 running XP Pro.
All was well. Now, both drives, 1 CD and 1 CDRW are giving me problems. If I have a disk in the drive while booting, it reads. If I take the disk out and insert another, it can’t find it. Once in a while it will find it and when I change the disk it’s gone. This is common to both drives.

I’ve opened the PC and reseated all the cables but it still happening.

All support and suggestions will be greatfully accepted.
