“broken glass” sound

when i tried to install a 128mb pc-100 k-byte memory in a macintosh G3 desk top computer, i heard a “broken glass” sound and the unit did not boot to desk top, is it a compatibilty issue or the ram is defective. is the ram propriety? can the computer supports two hard drives?
