Broken PS2 Keyboard pin & F1 message

by phil.oconnell . Updated 19 years ago

I am trying to fix an old compaq pc for a friend and find that the F1 keyboard error message he is getting appears due to a broken PS2 keyboard port. The broken pin is so far in it is impossible to get it out with pliers, tweezers or anything else. using a usb keyboard doesn’t solve the problem we still get “F1 keyboard error” Is there a solution short of replacing the motherboard? The usb ports seem ok as I plugged an mp3 thumb drive player into them and it worked fine even without booting into windows just ran of the pc’s power.
