Browser Configuration/ webpage display +

I use Win XP,AOL 8.0, MSIE 6,how do I find the correct browser settings to enable all the webpages to be displayed? What can be done to keep windows from freezing and/or applications from displaying “We’ve encountered problems and need to close, sorry if you were in the middle of something- your work may be lost.”?
