C: Drive to small to install Windows XP

I recently tried to install Windows XP on my hard drive. Unfortunately I have a very small C: drive 7.8 MB. I think it was supposed to remain hidden as it only has autoexec, config.sys, pollog and pollst in it? Was it supposed to remain hidden? or can I enlarge the partition?
