Can a website freeze up my internet?

When I try to access the website http://www.guardianretirement.com/
the web page will not fully open and although I see activity on my wireless connection, my internet and eventually my computer w/Windows XP will lock up to where I have to manuallyshut it down to get out of it. I’ve had computers for 10 years and have never seen one like this before. It only happens at this website so far. Otherwise everything works fine. Could someone give me a reason for this? Is this website doing something to cause this?
