Can I get the winxp home productID from a non working OS?

Hello:
My friends computer started getting the missing ntldr message. I did a search on google and on techrepublic. After following the steps to correct I still have the same problem. I have decided to wipeout the existing installed windows and reinstall.
Now the problem is my friend is unable to find her windows xp hoime install disk. I still have access to her hard drive via booting with a windows 98 diskett. Is there a way I can get her xp productid #? I also did a search for retriving the id# but, they need to be run from the hard that will not boot?
