can i share a modem?

i have a small home network, a laptop(versa v, win95)and a pentium 111 pc w/ win98se.(crossover ethernet) i have a modem in the pc,56k.is it possible to access the internet w/ my laptop, through my pc, without having to upgrade my pcmcia NIC card?
