Can W2K support serial mouse/keyboard?

In upgrading some older machines to Windows 2000 I have run across some that have fairly powerful processors and enough memory to support the Operating System but they have serial mice and keyboards. Will this be a problem or are the ports controlled strictly in the BIOS. these machines are only 4 years old and I certainly didn’t expect to run across this problem.
