can you assign IP to computer’s printer

This might be a stupid question but I have a printer attached directly to a workstation that I would like to assign an IP to. I’ve done this using jetdirect print servers in the past but I was wondering if there was a way to do this using the the computer? I know you can share printers on a Windows NT network but this is a Unix server that needs to print to this printer. Thanks
