cannnot access internet

I reinstalled Win 98 and now cannot access the Internet. It gives me Illegal Operation error whenever I try to use any program that access the Internet! This includes IE, Kazaa and Outlook etc…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am just starting out of school and have minimal experience.
