Cannot join domain

I have a 2000 server. When I try to join the domain, I receive error – unable to locate domain or contact domain controller. I can ping the PDC/BDCs by IP as well as name. I can browse the network and access resources. However, it is critical for one of our applications to be a member of the domain.
