Cannot recognize IDE Hard drives…

Removed 2 IDE HD’s, master/slave configuration, running XP
Pro from Dell Optiplex. Placed HD’s into OLDER Dell
Dimension. Both HD’s are recognized in BIOS but XP will
NOT boot! Bluescreen suggests running “chkdsk /f”. I’ve
done this twice but still unable to boot my HD’s. I do
not have original Dell to check if HD’s still funtion at
all! I do have external HD kit and could attach to
another PC but leaving that as my last resort to retrieve
my data.
