I am dual-booting Windows ME and Windows 2000 Pro (SP2) on my computer.
Today I did a new install of the Windows XP Pro on the same machine after
which I get the following message when starting W2k Pro –
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
I have matched the pre & post WinXP BOOT.INIs; the W2k Pro line seems to be the same as earlier. The W2k Pro parition still is the 4th from the begining on the first hard disk.
When formatting the 1st hdd, I had laid out space for another OS, where I installed XP (last on the 1st hdd); XP Setup did not create any partition on its own. But the BOOT.INI shows the XP partition to be the (2). Am I reading the file wrong?
This info is now leading me to think if the HAL.DLL is actually damaged or is it
something to do with the new NTLDR on C:\.
Kindly help.
