Can’t access folders on shared drive in home network

by scott . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

I have two Windows XP SP2 computers (one desktop, one laptop) networked (wired) through a Linksys router. And while each can see the other, I’m having trouble sharing a hard drive. I have set up the D drive on my desktop to be shared. I got the little warning message about sharing the root drive, but I proceeded to share it, including checking the option to let others modify my files.

When I go to the laptop, while it can view the desktop’s D drive, whenever I try to open any files in subfolders within the D drive, I get an error message about not having permission to access files in that subdirectory. I can access files in the root of the D drive, but none in subfolders. Surely I don’t have to enable sharing on every subdirectory (I hope).

If anyone can help, I’d sure appreciate it.

Many thanks,
Scott
