Can’t delete a file

I have a file that I can’t delete. I tried every which way to delete it ie: DOS, rename, move, drag to recycle, and explorer. I get an the error message “Cannot delete the file: the file name you specified is invalid or too long”

The name of the file is very long but I get this message even if I try to modify it’s properties. I’m on a Win2K machine with SP2.
Any suggestions???
