Cant delete Mcafee

I have a win 98 machine running an old Mcafee anti-virus.
I want to remove it from my system but when i try in control panel, add/remove programs it comes up with a error message ‘Internal error 2765.stopaAVSyncManager’.
Is there a way to remove this?
