“Can’t find operating system”

by jasminemayluther . Updated 19 years, 6 months ago

I have a 4 year old laptop that I just spilt a bit of water on today. Not a lot, but apparently enough. I shut it down, dried it, let it dry, and started it up again. At first all was well. Then as it was booting, it gave me a message that it couldn’t find the operating system. There were some key strokes to configure. I tried them but I’m getting the feeling that the computer can’t sense the keystrokes I’m using. Does this mean the computer is done for or is there something I can do. I don’t want to put a bunch of money into getting it repaired since it’s 4 years. Also, if it is done, is there a way to get the info off the hard drive that I can do without sending it in? If not, what can I do to make sure others can’t access it my passwords… when I discard it. Thanks!
