Can’t join domain with 2000 serv or pro

When I setup a windows 2000 machine, whether it be server or professional, I can’t join the domain. At the network identification dialog box, I enter my domain but it can’t see it or join it. After I set up the computer and it is running, I can see the domain and all computers in it but I still can’t join it. Any suggestions?
