Can’t log on to XP Home

by mpd881 . Updated 21 years, 3 months ago

One of my users home machine (XP Home) got hit with viruses (didn’t keep his definitions up to date). It messed with Norton, so i took the drive out and attached it to another machine and used the second machines antivirus to scan it. There were 23 viruses. I deleted them and ran spyware programs and got it cleaned up. I replaced the drive and turned his machine on.

It loads well, until it gets to the login (I can’t remember what it’s called when you have the names with icons to log on with). I click on any of the user accounts and it shows it is loading the settings, then a black screen pops up (too quickly for me to read it) and then it shows the setting being saved and logging out. It does this in both regular boot and safe mode. Any ideas how to get around this?

Thanks for your help
