Can’t open Excel doc when space in path

I have a Novell network running Win2k workstations. When trying to open an Excel document (both local and on the network) using Office 97, if there is a space anywhere in the path, I get error messages! eg: c:\my documents\worksheet.xls …the space in the directory causes the error message. The document will eventually open after clearing the error messages though! Any ideas????
