Can’t update HP deskjet 870cse driver

I have a win NT print server and a win XP pro workstation. I am trying to connect to and use a HP deskjet 870cse printer but the NT driver is incompatable with XP. The XP CD has an updated driver but I cannot get NT to accept it as an alternate driver. I am having the same problem a HP Laserjet 4000TN printer. Both printers use a downloaded HP driver in NT (both printers are newer than NT) but HP says to use the driver that come on the XP CD for win XP. Is there anyway to fix this?
