CD Burning Trouble

I have a Sony VAIO running Windows XP, I go to burn a music CD with Windows Media Player and it gets to track three or four and stops burning, it states that the files won’t fit. I have made certain that the files are under 74min total, and it still doesn’t work. I then installed Roxio Easy CD Creator Basic 5 onto my machine. If I try to burn anything it works and burns about half the CD then comes up with an error. Could not write command or invalid command, etc. I have no clue what the problem is, I even tried using my buddy’s CD burner in my computer.
