CD only reading silver not green cd’s?

My 1997 Goldstar 8240B CD reader, can only Read CD’s with silver bottoms. Ones like SONY with Green bottoms will not be recognized, whether they are CD-R or CD-RW.
I know the latest driver is installed and the cd reader is not too old, but it confuses me why this 24x speed CD reader is having a problem? Ideas? Solutions? The green CD’s are working on other pc’s with the same Windows 95B OS. Is there a fix rather than replacing the CD drive itself. My iomegazip CD- burner on the same PC can read the green bottom cd’s. Help Please?
