CD ROM not working

Please help. I am running Windows 2000 Pro
and cannot get my cd writer to work. The
device manager recignizes the drive, however,
it never recognizes any of the drivers that are
installed. I have uninstalled the driver and
reinstalled it several times to no avail. I even
connected a different cd writer to the IDE
cable and got the same thing. Someone
please help!
