CD-ROM Wont boot

I got a gateway 2000 ive tried 3 cout them 3 cd-rom drives that work on any other computer but on this one it wont reconize it i get into boios and type and cd-rom and when i save and reatart it still wont ecozinze it so i get into bios and the info i eneterned it’s not there
HELP!
