CDRom Spins but Doesn’t Read

Ok, my CDrom drive is going on the fritz, reading one cd, then no more until I reboot, sometimes reading more, sometimes not, etc. I can hear all the CDs spin, but they aren’t read every time. It’s not a matter of the CDs because the same CDs readsometimes and not others. Prior to this problem I was in the middle of an MS Office update which required the CD, and I got an explorer error in the middle at which i had to restart abruptly, since then this problem has been happening. It neglectsto read a CD too often for the problem to be ignored.

I’d like to know what I can do about it BESIDES buy a new drive. That’s a last resort.
