CDRom won’t open…

Upon boot up of a PC running Windows 98SE the cdrom drive will open and stay open. If you insert a CD into the drive and close it by pushing the button the drive will read it and everything is fine. However when the user pushes the button to retreive the CD out of the drive nothing happens. At this point the computer locks up. This is the second drive in this machine doing this. The second one is a different brand than the first so I don’t think it’s a driver issue.
