CDRW & CD-Rom Not recognized

Recently my CDRW stopped recognizing all media. I would keep getting the message to insert a disk, when in fact one was loaded. I also noticed that the name had changed in my BIOS for my CDRW. NOW my CD-Rom identifies all disks as Audio (.cda) disks. I have purchased Norton SystemWorks 2003 and have run various online virus scans with nothing being found. What could be the problem(s)???
