Change Motherboard: Blue screen of death (BSOD)

With windows xp and 2000, i noticed that should a motherboard become damaged and replaced with a board of a different brand or specs the blue screen comes up at boot. Is there anyway to get it to still boot up windows and install the new drivers for the new motherboard instead of running windows repair or reinstalling windows? I remember it was possible with the ol’ win98, just wonderin if it’s possible with 2000 and xp.
