Here’s the situation. PC is a Dell GX 260. It came from Dell with Windows XP on it but when i took it to the clients site, they tell me “oh yeah, the program we need to run on this pc will ONLY run on Windows NT”. After getting a license set up, I downgrade the system to NT 4.0 w/ SP6. Then the problems started. NT is only listing COMM1, which is needed for the specialty software the PC was needed for. COMM1 port is being used by the serial port on the back of the PC, which there is only one of. My problem now is getting the modem to work. When I add a COMM port, the modem is unable to locate the new one. As a control test I disabled the specialty software and pointed the modem to COMM1. Still nothing, unable to initialze. The modem is a Conexant HCF V.90 56K Data Fax PCI Modem. I was able to find some NT 4.0 drivers for this model on Dell’s site. I tried setting it up on COMM3 with I/O 03E8 and on Interrupt 4. Did not work. I guess my question is, am I missing something in the configuring of NT or is this just NOT an NT compatible modem? Thanks all!
