Command Line disable

I have a back up to run on a W2K server and before it runs I want to disable the public NIC to insure no one is on the machine. The data base on the server corrupts real easy. I can’t stop services as it is a remote back up to another server via a second nic. So a command Line disable routine is needed to diable the card.
Any suggestions or reference sites.
