compaq/3com/legacy error…..

I have a compaq laptop (presario 1200 xl111)
and recently upgraded the os to win 2k. Windows had the drivers for everything except the 3com network card, and the onboard legacy sound card. if i disable the onboard sound card in bios, the 3com card works. if i remove the 3com card the sound still doesnot work. can anyone help?
