Computer shuts down without warning

The computer shuts down without any warning. The user was in an application at home which we can also use at work when the machine just turned itself off. Does anyone have any ideas? It took three goes to get it to stay on long enough to use it. Could it be the power supply. The pc is running Windows ME with a PIII 850.
