conflicting os’s

Can you shed any light on why win2000, on a seperate disk to winxp controlls which os boots first. Please don’t ask why I have both os’s running is was an experiment ok I like to fiddle.
I have encountered this problem recently where
win 2000 want’s to boot over any other os.
Any ideas??????
